2008 Meeting Programs

November 6th Program Details
Featured Speaker: Fann Montague
Program Title: "Old Granville County Homesites"

Fann Montague, librarian for the Richard H. Thornton Library North Carolina Room, will be the speaker for the November 6, 2008 meeting of the Granville County Genealogical Society. During the past year Fann has worked on several projects, two of which she will combine to make a presentation concerning homesites in Granville County, primarily in the northern part of the county.

The fist of her projects was initiated after Fann had many inquiries as to where many Granville County homesteads were located, primarily existing in the 1700’s and 1800’s. She found many of these places listed in the book Heritage and Homesteads . Others she found by painstaking research into old histories, family write ups and other similar sources. She combined these findings into a booklet now kept in the North Carolina Room at the library.

The second project was the transcribing of the Shilo Presbyterian Church session minutes, the original of which had been given to the library about 20 years ago. As Fann and Kitty Humpheries proceeded with this task they noted that many of the names mentioned were associated with old homesteads. Combining these places with the homesteads in the previous project suggested an interesting program, which will be the topic of the presentation.

All members and guests are cordially invited to attend this unique program to be held at 6:30 P.M on November 6, 2008 in the Richard H. Thornton Conference Room. The meeting is open to the public.
