John Wlson returns to speak to the Granville County Genealogical Society, 1746 on Thursday September 3, 2009. The meeting, to be held in the County Commissioner’s Meeting Room on Williamsboro Street, will begin at 6:30 P.M.

John Henry Wilson, Jr. was born and raised on a tobacco farm near Stovall, N.C. After graduating from Stovall High School, he went to Wake Forest University where he graduated in 1955. From 1955 - 1957 he served as an officer in the U. S. Army Chemical Corp. He then went to North Carolina State University, finishing in 1959. While employed at V-C and Mobile Chemical Corporations in Richmond, Virginia between 1960 - 1972, he discovered Mocap Nematicide-Insecticide, which was very popular with local tobacco farmers here in Granville County and elsewhere. For the next twenty years he was a Professor of Plant Pathology and Horticultural Science and head of the State Pesticide Education Program at North Carolina State University.

After retiring from teaching he moved back to Granville County with his wife Rose and they live in the Mountain Creek - Cornwall area. Since his retirement he has devoted much of this time researching and writing about Granville County. This effort has resulted in three books, Roaming around Northern Granville County and Vicinity and Roaming Around Southern Granville County and Vicinity. His third book, Roaming Around Oxford and Its Roots, published just before Christmas last year, will be the topic of his presentation to the Genealogical Society Thursday evening.

Monthly meetings are open to the public and visitors are cordially invited to this meeting, which will be interesting and informative. The meeting will be held in the County Commissioner meeting room at 145 Williamsboro Street in Oxford, N.C. at 6:30 P.M. September 3, 2009.
