2012 Meeting Programs

September 6th Program Details
Featured Speaker: Martha Morton
More Than Mayberry; The Life and Work of Harvey Bullock

The Granville County Genealogical Society will have for it's speaker at their September 6, 2012 meeting Martha Morton who will talk about Oxford native Harvey Bullock.

Martha, a GCGS member, was born and raised in Granville County. After graduating from Wake Forest University she worked in health care settings in the Triangle for 18 years, returning to Oxford in 2004 to be closer to her family. Since returning to Granville County, she has done volunteer work for educational causes and since 2010, she has served on the Board of Trustees of the Granville County Library System and currently serves as the board's secretary.

Martha says she has always enjoyed pop culture, especially the 1960's movies and Television. One day during a conversation with her brother, the fact that Harvey Bullock, a writer for the Andy Griffith T.V. show, was from Oxford was brought up which she said she had never been aware of. Shortly thereafter an exhibit at the Granville Historical Society Museum in 2004 which also mentioned that Harvey Bullock was from Oxford further piqued her interest, leading to further research into his life and achievements which she will discuss during her presentation.

As usual, visitors are encouraged to join with the society members to enjoy this presentation. The meeting will be held on September 6, 2012 at 6:30 P.M. in the large conference room at the Richard H. Thornton Library in Oxford

All GCGS meetings are open to the public and guests are cordially invited to attend.
