Featured Speaker: Velvet Satterwhite
Early Marriage Customs in Colonial America

The Granville County Genealogical Society #1746 will hold its monthly meeting December 6, 2012. The meeting will begin at 6:30 pm in the large conference room at the Richard H. Thornton Library, Oxford, NC.

A program on Early Marriage Customs in Colonial America, including Banns and Bonds of early marriages in NC will be presented by society member, Velvet Satterwhite. Satterwhite is a native of Vance County, NC. having graduated from the former Henderson High School and the former Henderson Business College. After graduation, she was employed by several law firms in Henderson and spent 11 years as Medical Records Clerk III for the Four County Mental Health Program.

Satterwhite's passion for breeding and exhibiting dogs in conformation and obedience led to the beginning of a dog grooming career in 1983. She is the owner of The Grooming Box in Henderson. She is a Certified Master Groomer with the National Dog Groomers Association of America, member of the Durham Kennel Club, member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution as well as a member of several genealogical societies in Vance and Granville County. She enjoys family research including the Satterwhite families of Granville and Vance County, the Hux, Shearin, and Dickens families of Halifax County and the May and Winstead families of Nash and Franklin County.

The meetings of the society are open and guests are cordially invited to join with the society members to hear this presentation, to be given at 6:30 P.M. on December 6, 2012 in the large conference room at R. H. Thornton Library in Oxford.

All GCGS meetings are open to the public and guests are cordially invited to attend.
