2005 Meeting Programs September 1st Program DetailsFeatured Speaker: Dr. Richard L. Taylor The Granville county Genealogical Society,1746 will meet at Richard H. Thornton Library on September 1, 2005. The program will be presented by Dr. Richard L. Taylor, who will speak on “Ole Timey Medicine”. Dr. Taylor was born and raised in Oxford and attended the local public schools. He earned AB and MD degrees from the University Of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Following graduation from medical school, he did two years of postgraduate work at City Hospitals in Baltimore, Maryland. After finishing his training, he spent the next two years in the Navy; then returned to Oxford to enter the practice of Family Medicine, which he continued for 34 years until he retired in 2000. Since retirement he has been active in historical and genealogical research. The program will touch on such topics as archaic names for diseases that might appear on old death certificates or in family histories. Also briefly discussed will be epidemics during colonial times and illnesses that were important during the Civil War. You are encouraged to bring to this meeting any questions about illnesses that are important in your family’s history. The meeting will be held in the conference room at the Richard H. Thornton Library at 6:30 P.M. on September 1, 2005. Members and guests are encouraged to attend and participate.
