2005 Meeting Programs October 6th Program DetailsFeatured Speaker: Leonard Dean The October 6, 2005 meeting of the Granville County Genealogical Society, 1746 will have for it’s featured speaker Leonard F. Dean. Len, a past vice-president of the GCGS, he has done a vast amount of research in genealogy and associated topics. He will speak on “In and Out Using the Census”. Dean was born, reared, and is part of the pioneer Dean family of Granville County. He graduated from Oxford High School in 1954 and NC State in 1959. Most of his adult life he has lived in Raleigh where he worked in the computer business. Since retiring from IBM in 1992, he has spent considerable time doing genealogical research on ancestors of the county. He is a charter member of GCGS. Dean has written two books on the family history of the Hobgoods of this locale. In addition to his books on the Hobgood family Len has done extensive work on a Gazetteer of Granville County. He is married to Sarah Frazier Andrews who also has genealogical roots from the region. During the course of his research Len has had occasion to use census records extensively. During his program he will share some of the “tricks of the trade” in using census records Both members and guests are cordially invited to attend this meeting that promises to be interesting and informative. The meeting is to be held at the Richard H. Thornton Conference Room at 6:30 P.M, October 6, 2005.
