2005 Meeting Programs December 1st Program Details The December meeting of the Granville County Genealogical Society, 1746, to be held in the conference room of the Richard H, Thornton Library on Main Street in Oxford at 6:30 P.M. on December 1, 2005, will offer a unique and informative program featuring Arthur Ray Currin as the speaker. Arthur Ray was born and raised on a tobacco farm in the Oak Hill section of Granville County. He attended the Oak Hill school then served in the US Army during World War II in the 7th Army, 103 Infantry Division in Europe. After being discharged from the Army, he returned to his family farm in Oak Hill where he has lived ever since. In 1953, he began work in law enforcement as a deputy sheriff. Later he served as the county ABC Officer and still later as Sheriff of Granville County for six years. In total he served for 33 years in Granville County law enforcement. Since his retirement, he and his wife Marie have enjoyed traveling. During his program Arthur Ray will discuss some history of alcohol and the making of it in stills especially in regards to Granville County. Guests and members are encouraged to attend this program, which promises to be informative and entertaining.
