2006 Meeting Programs November 2nd Program DetailsFeatured Speaker: Donna Snipes The Granville County Genealogical Society, 1746 will be having it’s November 2, 2006 meeting at 6:30 PM at the Richard Thornton Library Conference Room. Guest speaker for the evening will be Donna Snipes who will discuss the Civil War Elmira Prison. Donna was born and raised in Granville County. After attending the local schools here, she went to Barton College where she earned a BS degree in education. She then taught school in Robeson County. While in Robeson County she worked on a master’s degree ending up with a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education. She returned to Granville County in 1993 and teaches in an early (birth - three) intervention program, which covers an eight county area, for the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Education Services. Donna has done considerable research on the Civil War era and will talk about the Union prison at Elmira, NY where many of our local Confederate soldiers were incarcerated during this epic conflict. Both guests and members are cordially invited to attend this informative program on November 2, 2006 at the Thornton Library on Main Street in Oxford.
