2007 Meeting Programs September 6th Program DetailsFeatured Speaker: Tim Rackley The members of the Granville County Genealogical Society 1746, Inc. will hold their regular monthly meeting September 6, 2007 with Timothy Rackley as the featured speaker. Mr. Rackley was born in Nashville, NC and attended the local schools there. After graduation he joined the Air Force where he served for six years. Several years after leaving the Air Force, he and another family member co-authored a family book titled Rackley: A Southern Colonial Family, which was released in 1984. In 1993 he decided that abstracting and publishing of records was what he wanted to do. He said that he knew that not everyone could get to the courthouse or archives and even if they could, they may not be able to read the records. Rackley Publishing Company was formed in 1994 with the goal of taking the Nash County records to the individual. The decision to add Granville County was made in 1998. He has published about 30 books and in 1998 Tim was given the “Award for Excellence in Publishing” by the North Carolina Genealogical Society. At the September 6, 2007 meeting, to be held in the conference room at the Richard Thornton Library in Oxford at 6:30 P.M., Tim will discuss his latest project which is Land Platting. There are many advantages to exactly locating and mapping family land and this will be his topic of discussion. Members and guests are encouraged to attend this unique program..
