2007 Meeting Programs December 6th Program DetailsFeatured Speaker: Rev. Pat Cox “History Viewed Through a Post Card Collection” The Granville County Genealogical Society 1748, Inc. will meet at the Thornton Library at 6:30 PM December 6, 2007. Pat Cox will be the featured speaker. Rev. Cox was born and raised in Oxford and attended public schools here. He says that like all Cox boys he got his start as a 12 year old curb boy at his Uncle Hubert Cox’s Three way Restaurant. After graduating from J. F. Webb High School, he continued his education at NC State University where he earned a BA in History and a BA in English. Following this he got his Masters of Divinity from the Southeastern Seminary in Wake Forest. After completing his education he held many positions at Oxford Orphanage from 1979 – 1995 including cottage parent, school teacher, chaplain, and assistant superintendent. From 1995 – 2003 he was an Associate Pastor at the Oxford Baptist Church and from 2003 through the present he has been an Associational Missionary for the Flat River Baptist Association. He is a member of the Granville County Board of Education and is an amateur (Ham) radio operator with contacts in 302 countries and 3 contacts with astronauts aboard the International Space Station. To further occupy his spare time Rev. Cox collects antique Oxford/Oxford Orphanage postcards, milk bottles, jars and soft drink bottles embossed “Oxford, NC”. During his presentation at 6:30 PM in the conference room at the Richard H. Thornton Library on Main Street in Oxford, he will share some of his collection with members and guests.
