2009 Meeting Programs March 5th Program DetailsFeatured Speaker: Dot Wilkinson Program Title: "On The Homefront During World War II" A Charter Member of the Granville County Genealogical Society 1746, Dorothy Gupton Wilkinson, will be the featured speaker for the March 5, 2009 meeting of the society. Dot was born in Franklin County where she grew up on a farm. After attending local schools, she continued her education at Louisburg College and East Carolina Teacher’s College (now ECU) where she graduated with a double major in Home Economics and Science. After completing her education at ECTC, she spent two years as Home Economics teacher at Oak Hill High School in Granville County, where she also had full responsibility for management of the lunchroom. She next worked for one year as Assistant Home Demonstration Agent with the title of Emergency War Food Preservation Assistant in 1944. In 1945 she was promoted to Home Demonstration Agent and she continued in this capacity until she retired in 1977 with 33 years of service. Her experiences make her uniquely qualified to speak on the subject for the evening - On The Homefront During World War II. She will discuss some of the many experiences of that time that she was involved with. Dot was married to the late G. P. Wilkinson and has one son, David, a granddaughter and a grandson. Much of her time since retirement is spent with family and considerable time working on genealogy. Meetings of the Granville County Genealogical Society are open to the public, and guests are always welcome. Both members and guests are encouraged to attend this nostalgic and informative meeting on March 5, 2009 in the conference room at the Richard H. Thornton Library at 6:30 P.M.
