2009 Meeting Programs May 7th Program DetailsFeatured Speaker: Mark Pace Program Title: "Local Diaries and Ledgers - What's Out There and What Can Be Gleaned From Them?" Mark Pace, who is the new North Carolina Room specialist at the Richard H. Thornton Library, will be the speaker for the May 7, 2009 meeting of the Granville County Genealogical Society 1746, Inc. Mark was born and raised in Henderson, Vance County, NC, actually he says his home place is located between Middleburg and Williamsboro. After graduating from Vance Senior High in 1979, he went to UNC - Chapel Hill, finishing in 1984. He then worked for an advertising company in Raleigh, NC. After a few years, he resigned from the company and started his own freelance advertising and painting company. In the past few weeks he has been hired to oversee the North Carolina Room at Thornton Library. This new job has given him the opportunity to actively pursue a 30 year passion for genealogy and local history. During this 30 year period of off and on research, he has found several somewhat off beat sources of information, two of which will be the basis of his presentation at the meeting. He will speak about individual diaries and ledgers such as plantation ledgers and store ledgers, detailing what kind of information one might expect to find in these writings. Meetings of the Granville County Genealogical Society are open meetings and visitors are always welcome. Guests are always welcome at Granville County Genealogical Society meetings and they are cordially invited to join members at the May 7, 2009 meeting in the Conference Room at the Richard H. Thornton Library on Main Street in Oxford at 6:30 PM.
