2009 Meeting Programs October 1st Program DetailsFeatured Speaker: Dr. Richard L. Taylor Program Title: "What’s in a Name - Nicknames" Dr. Richard Taylor will be the featured speaker for the October 1, 2009 meeting of the Granville County Genealogical Society 1746, Inc. to be held in the County Commissioner’s Meeting Room on Williamsboro Street in Oxford at 6:30 PM. Dr. Taylor, who is the society’s vice president, is a retired family physician who was born and raised in Granville County and came back to practice medicine here after finishing his formal education and doing a tour in the US Navy during the Viet Nam era. He and his wife Julia Ann have one son, also living in Oxford. In his program presentation, Dick will discuss some naming traditions, particularly nicknames and how they might be of interest in working on your genealogy. Many of these nicknames are very common and easily recognized and others may be somewhat obscure in their origin or meaning, leading to confusion in your research. Monthly meetings are open to the public and visitors are cordially invited to this meeting, which will be interesting and informative. The meeting will be held in the Granville County Commissioner’s Meeting Room at 145 Williamsboro Street, Oxford, NC at 6:30 PM on October 1, 2009.
