2011 Meeting Programs May 5th Program DetailsFeatured Speaker: Dr. Richard L. Taylor Program Title: "Ancestor's Occupations" On May 5, 2011 the Granville County Genealogical Society will hold it’s regular monthly meeting at the Richard H. Thornton Library in Oxford at 6:30 P.M. The speaker for the evening will be Dr. Richard L. Taylor who will speak on “Ancestor’s Occupations”. Taylor was born and raised in Oxford, He was educated in the local schools and at the University of North Carolina, with post graduate training in Baltimore Maryland. After a tour in the U.S. Navy, he returned to Oxford where he was engaged in a family medical practice for 34 years. After his retirement, he has enjoyed doing genealogical and historical research. It is important, in completing your family’s history, to include more information than just the birth and death dates. Including information about how your ancestors earned their living will help give your history life and a more complete story of how your ancestors lived. In some cases knowing what work they did will help expand your database as well. The program for the evening will focus on ways of exploring this kind of information. This meeting, beginning at 6:30 P.M. on May 5, 2011 in the large conference room at Richard H. Thornton Library, is open to the public and visitors are always welcome. All GCGS meetings are open to the public and guests are cordially invited to attend.
