2013 Meeting Programs

January 3rd Program Details
Featured Speaker: David C. Reavis
"Upon These Steps"

The Granville County Genealogical Society 1746, Inc. will hold its first meeting of the new year, Thursday, January 3rd, 2013 at 6:30 pm in the large conference room of the Thornton Library, Oxford, NC. David C. Reavis will be the featured speaker.

After 36 years of service, Reavis retired from North Carolina State Government as a Treasury Professional. Upon his retirement in 2011, Governor Beverly Perdue bestowed upon him "The Order of the Long Leaf Pine," which is among the most prestigious awards presented by the Governor of North Carolina. He continues to function in a consulting capacity as the "E-Commerce Subject Matter Expert" for the University of North Carolina System.

Reavis grew up in the Reavis home place located on Satterwhite Point Road, Vance County, NC. He has always appreciated the family heritage and has been doing genealogical research on the Reavis Family for over 35 years. He maintains a website www.reavishistory.com. The Reavis home was built by Samuel Reavis in 1789 in what was then Granville County.

Davis Reavis' first historical novel, "Upon These Steps", details the heritage represented by generations of Reavis ancestors who have lived in the home place, especially during the Civil War. He was inspired by the resilience of the human spirit demonstrated by his ancestors who endured and survived one of the most horrific periods of America's history.

David Reavis and his wife, Deelane, now reside in Raleigh, NC and maintain a second home in North Myrtle Beach, SC.

The meetings of the society are open and guests are cordially invited to join with the society members to hear this presentation, to be given at 6:30 P.M. on January 3, 2013 in the large conference room at R. H. Thornton Library in Oxford.

All GCGS meetings are open to the public and guests are cordially invited to attend.
