2013 Meeting Programs September 5th Program DetailsFeatured Speaker: A.J. Blackwell "World War II Experiences" Mr. A.J. Blackwell will be the featured speaker for the September 5 meeting of the Granville County Genealogical Society at 6:30 p.m. in the large meeting room of the Richard H. Thornton Library in Oxford. Blackwell, a Granville County native and World War II veteran, will speak about his experiences during the war. From 1945 to 1946, Blackwell served with the Navy in the Pacific and the Phillipine Islands . His brothers, Elbert and Elwood (who were twins), served in the Army Air Force during the same period. In April 2012, Blackwell was on the last Flight of Honor to Washington, D.C. with other surviving World War II veterans to visit the World War II Veterans Memorial. Mr. Blackwell has had a long career in the dairy business. He has been very active in the Mountain Creek community, Mountain Creek Baptist Church and various dairy organizations. This meeting, beginning at 6:30 P.M. on September 5, 2013 in the large conference room at Richard H. Thornton Library, is open to the public and visitors are always welcome. All GCGS meetings are open to the public and guests are cordially invited to attend.
