Featured Speakers: Mrs. Peggy Woodlief Johnson
"Difficulties of Keeping Home and Family During the Civil War in the South"
Mrs. Peggy Woodlief Johnson will be the featured speaker for the Granville County Genealogical Society meeting on February 5 at 6:30 p.m. in the conference room at Richard H. Thornton Library in Oxford.
Mrs. Johnson will be portraying her great, great, great, grandmother, Elizabeth Blackwell Frazier. Elizabeth’s husband died and left Elizabeth to raise their children alone. Among their many children there were five sons. Four of these sons served in the Confederate Army. Only William (a cripple) was left at home. Johnson will be talking about the difficulties that women of the south had to endure and overcome to keep their home and family together.
Mrs. Johnson is a Granville County native, attended school in Oxford and has many family members in the county today.
Please join the members of the Granville County Genealogical Society at 6:30 P.M. on February 5, 2015
in the conference room at the Richard H. Thornton Library in Oxford. Visitors are always welcome and are encouraged to join in this presentation.
