"Lessons Learned from a Date with Destiny: An Historic and Inspirational View of 9/11/01"
Joe Dittmar will be the guest speaker at the Granville County Genealogical Society's monthly meeting on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. in the conference room of Thornton Library in Oxford.
Mr. Dittmar will present the program "Lessons Learned from a Date with Destiny: An Historic and Inspirational View of 9/11/01". His presentation will provide an eyewitness account of the sights and sounds from inside and outside the World Trade Center Complex on September 11, 2001. He will also reveal what really happened before, during and after the terrorist attacks. Dittmar was attending a meeting of 54 insurance executives on the 105th floor of Two World Trade Center on 9/11. He was one of seven survivors from that meeting.
September 11, 2001 had an enormous impact on the study of genealogy in that countless families were forever altered. Over 3,000 children lost their parents. Husbands, wives, brothers, sisters, etc. were also lost on that terrible day.
A Philadelphia, PA native, Joe Dittmar has worked in the insurance industry for 35 years. He currently is Director of Property Underwriting for Rockhill Specialty Programs in Durham, NC. Previously, he worked in senior management at Colony Insurance, Lexington Insurance, Allianz Global Risks, CNA Insurance Company and Wausau/Liberty Mutual Insurance. Dittmar and his wife live in Chapel Hill and have four children and two grandchildren. He is also a founding member of the Napierville 9/11 Memorial Commission.
All GCGS meetings are open to the public and guests are cordially invited to attend.
