2017 Meeting Programs December 7th Program Details The program for the December 7, 2017 meeting of the Granville County Genealogical Society will be presented by Mr. Adlai "Pembo" Woodlief. Pembo will give a presentation on the history of distilled spirits in America, the dispensary system, and taxing of distilled spirits. This promises to be an informative and entertaining presentation by one of Granville County's well known citizens. Mr Woodlief was born in Henderson in 1953 and has been a life long resident of Granville County. He graduated from South Granville High School in 1972 and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His avocation is the collecting of artifacts and his major interests include ephemera, bottles and items from Granville County and surrounding areas. He is a member of the Raleigh Bottle Club, the Southeast Bottle Club and the Granville County Historical Society. Along with the items Pembo has collected, he has amassed an amazing amount of knowledge about Granville, and surrounding areas, people and history. His presentation should give an interesting and unique insight into some Granville County history. Please join members of the Granville County Genealogical Society in attending this meeting, to be held at 6:30 P.M. on December 7, 2017 in the conference room at the Richard H. Thornton Library in Oxford, N.C. All GCGS meetings are open to the public, and visitors and guests are always cordially invited to attend.
