Featured Speaker: Mildred C. Goss
"The Requirements of Lineage Research"
The program for the June 7, 2018 meeting of the Granville County Genealogical Society will be a presentation by Mildred C. Goss on "The Requirements of Lineage Research." Topics will include: general standards, identifying resources, application preparation, using DNA evidence, and evidence review.
Mildred, a native of the Granville County, was born in Sassafras Fork Township. She graduated from Stovall High School in Stovall. After high school she moved to the southern end of the county where she joined the workforce in Butner. While working, she obtained three Associate degrees and raised her three children. Goss retired from ADATC in Butner as Health Information Manager in 1996 after working forty years with the state. She helped organized the GCGS in August of 1994 before retiring and has been the president since its inception. Goss has researched her father's Currin family back to Kilkenny Ireland in 1320, and published several books.
She continued her schooling after retirement by going to Washington DC to be trained in lineage research at the DAR Headquarters. While there she qualified as a DAR “Genie”. She is serving her third term for the United Daughters of the Confederacy as the NC Division Registrar, approving membership papers at the division level. She is also serving as chairman of the Granville County Library Board of Trustees. This is her fourth year on the Library board.
